When the Austin Mustangs opened the 2006 football season on Saturday, September 9, at Houston’s Delmar Stadium, a group of alumni gathered in the parking lot to celebrate the spirit prior to the game.
Austin beat Northbrook 26-24 for a big win to kick off the season. Athletic Director Pete Gareri and his coaching staff can be very proud of the boys. Highlights included Austin’s Jerrell Hill running for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.
The crowd was delighted by a great half time performance by the band along with the Austin Emeralds and the Flag Corp accompanied by the fantastic drum line. They were even asked to stay on the field after their performance as time was remaining before the start of the third quarter.
Some of the tailgate party attendees included Diane Doyen Miller ’58, John Keller ’79, Larry Williamson ’58 with grandsons, Brandon and Travis, Jacque McDonald Royce ’59, Lin Eckert Neese ’58, Maurice McGlothlin Bass ’58, and Covey Nash ’58.
